Book Review: The Flowering Cross – by Beth Ryan, Illustrated by Renee Graef

The Flowering Cross is a book written in the form of a parable for children up to 10 years, explaining the meaning of Easter and how even kids can be instrumental in paving the way for people into God’s Kingdom.

Luke 18:16 – Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”

The Floweing Cross

This book talks of how a little girl named Katie, brings her neighbor “Mean Old Jack” to God by telling him about the truth, about Easter and what Jesus did and why.

What makes this book interesting for a little kid is that every page has big, bright colours with just about 5 lines on every page – so as to not make a child read too much – backing it up with a verse from the Bible to help children understand important truths from the Bible.

When I read the book, what interested me the most as a Sunday School Teacher is that every page gives directions on what you can share with the children after every page and to make them think more on the lines of God’s word.

I think this book lays good foundation in the minds of little kids to not shying away from talking about everything that Jesus has done for us and also a story I’m considering to enact for my church’s Easter Sunday Service.

I can’t wait to share the story with the kids at Sunday School. Definitely a recommended book for Parents & an addition to the Sunday School Library.
