The Internet – Going Mobile

With the newest, fanciest gadgets & everything being totally accessible on the move – internet/3g is no longer a luxury, but in fact a necessity. Although I do call it a necessity, it at the same time is loads of fun.

In my opinion, the internet going mobile & at my finger tips:

  • Helps me feel smart : allowing me to Google answers to everything, making me the genius
  • Never gets me lost : letting me pose as someone who is awful good with roads
  • Allows me to share with every one what I see : I can click pics, shoot videos, tweet, post updates, check-in on foursquare on the move.
  • Facilities like dropbox : allows me to work on the move, so when I reach work my doc’s ready & shared on my comp as well.
  • Allows me to play the weather woman: cause I can check the weather on the go, traffic conditions
  • Shows places to eat/hangout through foursquare
  • If I’m at a restaurant, I know what to try through recommendations on foursquare or burrp!
  • Allows me to be super social : even though I may be an introvert in reality
  • Lets me have a pseudo personality – I’m gyak88 & not N_______A :P
  • What’s more? It’s cheap to stay in touch!!

That’s why I think the #InternetIsFun!

What are your reasons, folks? :)

Book Review: 3′s A Crowd by Vijay Nagaswami

3′s a Crowd as the name clearly suggests is about infidelity – surviving and understanding it.

Everyone in relationships is dealing or have dealt with Infidelity in one way or another. If they haven’t yet in reality, they are dealing with it in their heads or living in the fear of it sooner or later confronting them.

3’s a crowd is a book that talks of infidelity in different situations – dealing with physical, emotional or just addictive reasons. The first half of the book talks of different situations when infidelity can occur. Of course, there does not always have to be a reason & that does not ever justify the need for anyone to cheat on their partner. You could be the best partner ever, and still be cheated on, reasons being not you but your partners addictive nature to living on the edge or plain addiction. This book covers it all.

What I like about the book is the way it all very detailed and explained of different stages, different relationships, in different circumstances go through this huge problem of infidelity. Although the author does tend to ramble his way through the stories, making it a little boring and repetitive, it overall does deliver the message – although not in the most interesting way.

The second half of the book on the other hand – is more readable. It talks of how both partners need to deal with infidelity. To let go or not, to trust again or not, dealing with feelings of anger, jealousy, rejection, etc.

The best part in my opinion about the book is where the author helps the reader understand what it takes to

jump back into the bandwagon, to trust again, to love again and give your relationship or any other relationship a chance with reason good enough to return.

In my opinion, this book does not necessarily cater to those couples who have been cheated on, or gone through a rough patch but also children who have witnessed a bad marriage in their parents because of infidelity, singles who aren’t yet in a relationship for the fear of being cheated on, singles who are in happy relationships to stay aware of signs that could lead to infidelity & even happily married couples – to just read for information.

Would I recommend this book?

Well, if you are one of those readers who enjoys reading all sorts of books, I’d recommend this book to you. But if you read not just to add a number to your collection of books & read for real juice, something that is un-put downable – this book ain’t for you. This is a book that can only be read if you have been driven by reason, circumstance or situation to read, without which it can be utterly boring.

He could use a bit of captivating language to keep his reader hooked especially when he is writing on topics as heavy as this one that does not cater to all audiences.

Book Review: Iron Tooth by Prithvin Rajendran

Iron Tooth comes under the category of a Fantasy novel although I would call it a very failed attempt. The author has tried to go a very Enid Blyton path, failing miserably from capturing the attention of the reader (who I will be referring to further in this article as myself)

The book’s prologue begins with something about a woman who becomes pregnant, thus disgraced her family, then gives birth to not just one baby but also a troll. From there the book begins with the Kingdom of Dashter, the curse that falls on it, to some lay man named Princixx who rises to fame from a challenge he won, and then goes a very Rapunzel route of having to save a princess trapped in a tower.

The connection between the title & the story only surfaces after you are about 80% into the book, leaving me very non-motivated to even read further to find out what the iron tooth is about in the first place. Even when I did find out what the iron tooth is about, & how it helps the story move further, it’s too late, since the author by then had successfully bored me.

What the story misses terribly is a flow from chapter to chapter, with me having to make mental notes of too many unnecessary characters from the story who do not even matter later. In my opinion, the author did not even need to introduce them to me in the book.

I would also say the language used in the book is terribly poor if I have to think of this as an adult’s book of choice. If it is meant for kids, the language has too much abusive language.

My note to the author:

  • Looks a lot like this may be your first attempt at writing a book. If it is, good start. Keep writing so you can better
  • If it isn’t your first book, you definitely needs to brush up on your writing skills mainly in how you keep the reader/me interested.
  • Decide your target audience. This book can’t decide if it wants to treat me like I’m a kid, or a grown up. I should know before I open the book if I am reading a kid’s book or an adult’s book.
  • Please do not add unnecessary characters into the book. You only confuse the readers with so many people we do not need to know about.
  • When you write a summary of the book, on the back page – please give the real gist of what the book is about. This says romance, fantasy whereas the book had none of that. At least that way, you won’t get negative reviews (I chose to review the book, because what I read on the back was interesting to me) since you won’t have people like me to read the book then :)
  • Please develop your own writing style. Don’t try to do an Enid Blyton or a Disney. You are best at being Prithvin.
  • Or maybe, fantasy isn’t your thing.

My Verdict:

  • I would not buy this book.
  • If I did not have to review it, I would have stopped reading at Chapter 4.

To Readers:

  • If you loads of time on your hands with nothing to do, you could read this book. Although if I had to choose, I would much rather read a newspaper.
  • If you are curious as to why this review is so critical & want to still read this book, that I think could make a valid reason.

Book Review: I’m Not Twenty Four…. by Sachin Garg

The book is as interesting as the Cover Page looks – which is a picture of ‘Saumya’s’ favourite red shoes. It’s the story of a 24-year-old girl, thrown into life’s craziest circumstances because of sheer bad luck, but how all of that turns right around for her.

The Story claims to be one of the most unusual ones for any city going 24-year-old girl & it sure lives up to it. A lot of us have had our elders tell us, “Child, you have not seen life! You are too young now. When you are my age, you will know.” This book proves all of those elders and their advice to youngsters wrong!

Saumya is a girl who is mistaken to be a boy. After she finished an MBA she is forced to live a man’s life, in a man’s world, in  job carved out for a man. She moves from Delhi to a tiny village in Toranagallu, that barely even has women.

A little into the story just as I started to feel like this was a normal story exaggerated into something so that it was capable of ‘novel material, the story took a turn for the worse – keeping me totally clued & tangled into the situation of the book. The book turned out to be an ‘un-put-down-able’ for me from then on.

The Author – sure had me hooked even when I was not reading the book because I continued to think of what Saumya was going through in the alien town of Toranagallu long after I had put the book away. If you read the book without knowing that the author was male, you wouldn’t even guess it. He has captured all of Saumya’s female emotions beautifully in the book. Being a girl, I can say that is exactly the sort of feelings, thoughts, dialogues we us & Sachin Garg brought that out inspite of being a male author.

What wasn’t too good: Well this is a personal opinion but I do not like the way making love is described so loosely. I think Saumya as a girl was described a little too loose to be considering sex/making love as something as simple as eating food.

Would I recommend this book? Sure! I would definitely recommend this book as an easy reader, nothing heavy and one that will keep you hooked enough to wanting to make time to come back to it. It’s just Rs. 100, so I would probably buy it more for the red shoes on the cover page & the very interesting title if nothing else.

Word of Advice: If another elder comes up to you and tells you, “Child, you have not seen life & how cruel it can be. Wait till you get to my age and then judge!” Remember this book, remember that in this day and age everyone at every age gets a taste of life, the catch is you don’t need to be uncovered from under your parents wings to taste it.
